Didn't take this route after no one that I talked to could confirm that there was a hotel anywhere before Cameron. Would like to try it on a summer day when I can roll well into the night.

Yo yo. If possible, try and take highway 82 south of Abbeville (south of Lafayette), once you get that far.

It's a relatively isolated highway, and might be kinda risky (I'm telling this to the guy riding across the South on a bicycle), but it's a cool, scenic road that will eventually end up right along the coast, and pass some nice beaches.

You could even take it all the way into Texas (Port Arthur) ... though you might want to check-out that bridge scene first.

Two days across Louisiana at the time of writing this comment and I'm not sure that the "asshole of the south" is much deserved (except in New Orleans, which smells accordingly). People here are pretty nice, even if they don't have a clue how to build a road.

Funny that you mention it; after writing this morning's thoughts, I saw Abita Springs on the map. It's right next to Slidell. I've gotta go there just to see the tour. So I'll take the Plaquemine ferry instead, south of Baton Rouge. Then I'll head south and reconnect with 90.

I have no idea what to expect.

Once you get to southwest Louisiana (west of New Orleans, cajun country), I'd suggest sticking to the coast as much as possible. Simply because it's pretty cool - at least it was three years ago (pre-Katrina). Some very nice beaches, and (from what I remember) relatively light traffic.

That route would probably take you into Texas via Port Arthur.
